The base is screwed with 3 teflon screws to the outside of the helmet shell. The post with attachment system slodes into the base and fixes with a thumb screw. Great invention from Schumacher. more details
When the ringsight is fixed in the base, the sight can be flipped 90ยบ out of eyesight. Putting the helmet on or taking it of is easier when flipped up.
